Description
The 3rd Smoky Mountain Veteran Stand Down will be held in Franklin at the Robert C. Carpenter Community Building, 1288 Georgia Road on Thursday, October 27, 2016 from 9 AM – 2 PM. The stand down targets homeless veterans, as well as veterans and the general population that are either at risk or in need. The event is centered on the provision of various services provided throughout the 7 most western counties of NC. Last year 57 agencies participated. Some of the services provided include: haircuts, dental, optometry, veteran’s benefits, education, legal, housing, medical, mental health, social services and ministry. Breakfast & lunch is provided. Last year the total number of individuals who visited, plus veterans served, was approximately 400. A larger number is expected this year. Information may be received from the Murphy NCWorks Career Center located across the 4 lane from the Chamber of Commerce. Cherokee County Transit will provide free transportation to and from the event for veterans residing in Cherokee County.
