Description
Join us for our June AfterHours hosted by Rotary Club of Murphy. We will be meeting in the new public space (Fain Alley) off Valley River Ave between Black & White Market and Urban. from 5:00 pm to 6:30 pm. We will holding a silent auction, serving refreshments, and giving away door prizes. Bring your business cards to be eligible for give-aways. The silent auction will benefit an International project sponsor by Rotary Club of Murphy, Wells for Nora.
What is the Wells For Nora? The "Wells for Nora" project continues to help communities in need of access to clean water through installation or repairs for water wells.
Rotary Club of Murphy, NC has donated $10,000 for the project. Those funds have provided one new well in Liberia, and repaired 55 existing wells in Haiti and Africa. Each of those wells provides water to about 500 people, meaning we have assisted 30,000 people to obtain clean, fresh water. A new well costs $5000, and repair costs vary. We have dedicated our efforts to the memory of Murphy teenager, Nora Starks.
Sadly, Nora lost her life at 17 in a car accident back in 2008. Her dedication and efforts, along with her church youth group to bring a well to the people of a town in Kenya will never be forgotten. Close family friend and Murphy, NC Rotarian Bob Massey helped see the project through. The village in Kenya, in which the well was dug call their well "Nora's well” and have planted a tree in her honor.
